Course Description:
This course will review how drug-free workplace policies can co-exist with legalized recreational marijuana. Learn to distinguish laws to provide reasonable accommodation, and familiarize yourself with drug testing issues and marijuana laws.

Dr. Brett Kessler
Denver, CO
Dr. Kessler is a general dentist in Denver, Colorado, and the Fourteenth District Trustee of the American Dental Association. Dr. Kessler has held a number of leadership positions within the ADA. He has served as a delegate in the ADA’s House of Delegates since 2008 and has been a consultant to the Council on Dental Wellbeing Advisory Committee since 2007. In 2010, Dr. Kessler received the ADA’s Golden Apple Award (the highest award bestowed by the Association) for outstanding leadership in mentoring. Dr. Kessler most recently served as Vice Chair on the Council on Dental Benefit Plans, and Chair of the Sub-council on Dental Business and Insurance Services.
Dr. Kessler served as President of Colorado Dental Association in 2014-2015 and was instrumental in the formulation and implementation of the adult Medicaid benefit which gave dental benefits to over 300,000 people in the state of Colorado. Dr. Kessler has received fellowships from the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Dr. Kessler has been recognized by his peers as a 5280 Magazine Top Dentist every year since 2006. In 2015, Dr. Kessler was featured by the Denver Post as the top dentist in the Denver metro area with its inaugural Strength in Health†award. He has testified before both the United States Congress and Colorado State Legislature to promote best dental practices that have helped to create laws that best serve the profession and the community.
Dr. Kessler is the past chair of the Colorado Dental Association Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving access-to-care, helping underserved communities and encouraging professional wellbeing. Dr. Kessler is an international speaker on leadership and wellbeing issues, including addiction. This is fueled by his passion for personal growth, wellness and fitness. In 2018, he championed the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training at the 2018 Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, and returned to race again in 2019. In addition, he is an avid trail runner, marathoner/ultra-marathoner, mountain/road biker, skier, snowshoe racer and lover of everything Colorado has to offer!
Dr. Kessler graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in biomedical engineering and attended dental school at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1995. He completed his general practice residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in 1997. Dr. Brett Kessler taught at the University of Michigan from 1997-1999 in the department of hospital dentistry and at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine from 2004-2011.
Dr. Kessler married his wife, Dr. Gina Kessler, in 1995 during their final year in dental school together. She went on to complete an orthodontic residency at the University of Michigan achieving a masters degree in Orthodontics in 1999. Together they have four children: Abbey, Max, Sydney and Riley.
